相傳佛祖出世,天上九龍齊到佛祖面前,噴水為佛祖沐浴淨身.而每年的農曆四月初八,便是記念佛祖出世(浴佛節).

龍是五瑞獸之首.而龍的面目,直至現在,還沒有人見過.現時坊間製作的龍,多是古時圖像,流傳至今,而加以製作.傳至今天,龍的製作種類,已頗多款式.

香港式的舞龍,大至分類如下:有金龍,銀龍,彩龍,夜光龍(配合螢光燈在全黑場地舞動),火龍(以燃點的的香插在龍身,在晚上黑暗的地方舞動,尤如有火的龍,在大地飛舞.每年農曆中秋節迎月,賞月,追月這三日,每晚8時正,在銅鑼灣大坑都有舞火龍表演,相傳大坑有瘟疫,舞火龍可驅除瘟疫.)還有紗龍(以輕紗造成,內有火光,在晚間舞動)及氫氣龍(以塑膠製成龍身,注入氫氣,然後以繩索縛在龍的各部份,在空中扯動各部份而舞動.)

龍身長度超過150呎以上屬於大龍,40呎至50呎的屬於小龍,50呎以上,150呎以下屬於中龍.

The Story of Dragons

According to the old saying, dragons meant the lucky symbol. They were able to produce clouds and rain. Therefore, they could bring luck to people and as a result, dragons represented rulers of the kingdom. Most Chinese called themselves as the descendants of dragons. 

It was said that when the Buddha was born, there were 9 dragons in the sky. These dragons approached the Buddha and brought water to help him take a bath, 

Since nobody has seen the dragons, the dragons manufactured are according to the old sayings. Therefore, there are many ways to manufacture dragons. 

In Hong Kong, the dragons are divided into gold dragons, silver dragons, colored dragons, fluorescent dragons and fire dragons. The last type is played in Causeway Bay. The fire dragons are featured by putting many joy-sticks on their body. The purpose of playing it is to get rid of disasters. 

The types of dragons are divided into according to their length. The “huge” dragons have 150 feet or above. The “medium” dragons have 50 to 150 feet. The “small” dragons have 40 to 50 feet. 

The dragon dancing can be divided into 2 streams. the South and the North. The South stream of dragon dancing is larger and clumsier than the North Stream. Therefore, it needs more players to support. Most people like watching the North Stream because it is faster. When the dragon is dancing, it is led by a dragon ball. When the dragon ball is moving up and down, the dragon follows it up and down as well. It looks like in the sky.
