MOI A Visit to The University Museum and Art Gallery

In the company of visual arts teachers, 20 Form 3 and Form 4 students visited the University Museum and Art Gallery on the 20th of January. We enjoyed an English guided tour, led by Ms Winky. “Conforming to Vicinity – A Cross-Strait Four-Region Artistic Exchange Project 2014” showcases the latest artworks by thirteen artists from Hong Kong, the Mainland, Macao and Taiwan. The exhibition was curated by the chief curator, FENG Boyi, and the curators of the four regions, Sarah NG Sau Wah (Hong Kong), GOU Xian Xu (Mainland), Noah NG Fong Chao (Macao) and HSU Woan Jen (Taiwan).

The project features installation/video arts, paintings and photographs by artists from the four regions. By admiring the artworks, students will learn more about not only the artists’ understanding and recognition of the four regions but also their adjustments to and conflicts over different current social structures, cultural habitats and their comprehension of the local circumstances. Besides, it is a good chance for students to learn English through Art.

I was glad that I could visit the HKU Museum and Art Gallery on Tuesday. The exhibition displayed many artworks from places such as Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and Mainland China. My favourite artwork was ‘A Separated Ocean’. Seawater was collected from the above four places and was kept in a packing box. I wondered if the water in the box stank or not.

During the visit, I learnt a lot about art and took many photos. There were statues and exhibits from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macau and Mainland China. One of the most impressive displays was a black packing box that contains water which came from the four places. It provided a nervous, doubtful and fragile atmosphere. I learnt a lot from this activity.

After visiting the HKU Museum and Art Gallery, I learnt more about the artists of the across-strait four regions, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and Mainland China. There were many exhibits from these four regions. The most memorable exhibit was the sketching of banknotes, RMB and HKD. It showed that there has been a marked increase in trade between Hong Kong and Mainland China in recent years. Nowadays, many Chinese visitors come to Hong Kong and spend lots of money on shopping.

Today, I went to HKU. There were many exhibits in the museum. The visit was unforgettable. I hope I can visit there again. There were exhibits from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macau and Mainland China. The most impressive exhibit was the first one. There were many audio recordings to show the city life, so I heard many different sounds. It was so amazing.

We went to visit the HKU Museum and Art Gallery. Some simple local newspapers and a number of different audio recordings were used to make beautiful artworks. Although I didn’t understand the English guide quite well, the visit really broadened my horizons.

Yesterday, I went to the HKU Museum and Art Gallery. When we arrived, we took some photos. In the exhibition, I saw a packing box. It was filled with water but the water didn’t leak because of a special coating. It was really amazing.

Through the activity, I learnt a lot about art. Most of the exhibits are not paintings or the forms that we are familiar with. The colours the artists used are simple but impressive. If there is a similar exhibition, I think I will go and see.
